If you work in an organization, you must be aware of team building. It’s the duty of a project manager to keep the team on the same page. Team building exercises strengthen the communication among employees. These activities play a vital role in improving team performances and improving chemistry among employees, which eventually helps build great teams.
Must have Team Building Exercises
1. Scavenger Hunt
Depending on the space available in your company, you can organize a scavenger hunt for your team. A scavenger hunt enables your team members to move around and learn to collaborate. It can be played indoors or outdoors, depending on the space availability in your office or the preference of your team members. In a scavenger hunt, the team is divided into smaller teams. We suggest between three to five members. Here’s how the team building exercise works, you hide random objects and ask different groups to find them. The first group to find these objects, or at least one object, depending on the scavenger hunt’s rules, that team wins.
2. Human Knot
This is an interesting Team Building Exercise game. You ask team members to come and stand in a circle and ask everyone to join hands together like a knot. It becomes a human knot. While they’re connected with each other, ask them to spread their arms and connect with each other using the other arm, which is not tied. This way, whoever lets go of anyone’s hand, loses.
2. Group Juggle – Team Building Exercise
For this team building exercise, form a circle of your team members and ask them to throw a ball to the other person. You can introduce new balls in the circle to make things more challenging. In addition, you can also ask the team to throw the balls when a name of a person is called. Hence, if the person throws the ball to another person whose name was not called, that person loses. You can also make your own rules. The objective of this game is to increase team activity.
4. Active Listener – Team Building Exercise
The active listener team building exercise enables a team to build a habit of listening attentively. How does this work? It’s simple but challenging. You can deliver a boring speech while making it full of jargon. The challenging part is that you have to add random sentences in it, which can later be asked as questions.
Once the speech is done, quiz your team members to see who was actively listening. This can also be a team vs. team activity, or individuals can participate.
5. Group Timeline – Team Building Exercise
This team building exercise teaches and tests the sorting skill of your employees. So, ask your team members to sort themselves by as an example height, age, time spent in the company. In an ideal situation, these groups shouldn’t take much time to sort themselves, but for the first try, it can take time. The quickest one to form a sorted group wins.
6. Perfect Square – Team Building Exercise
Buy a rope and tie it from one end to another to form a loop. The rope must be at least 5 meters long. Ask team members to stand in the circle while the rope is on the ground. Now, blindfold them and ask them to take five steps back. After this, tell everyone to turn the rope into a perfect square. For this team building exercise, collaboration is the key!
7. Building Blocks
You might think that this team building exercise is about LEGOs. Sorry to disappoint you, but this isn’t about LEGOs. This team building exercise aims to build a deeper relationship with others and improve communication with team members. It is a popular team-building game that involves cards. There are 101 questions written on cards which are split into six categories. These questions can be about team, education, personal things, future decisions, random scenarios, and hobbies. Just ask these questions from each other and learn about their personalities. This way, the more the team knows each other, the more they’ll feel comfortable collaborating.
Conclusion:
These team building exercises are our favorite. Teams get stronger in communication, collaboration, and understanding by having these fun activities. When played, team members learn and have fun playing these games. Activities like these light up the mood in a critical condition as well and should be held to make everyone feel like a TEAM.
